Starting the new year with big personal news and gingerbread

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I've teased that I have big news for the last month but have only shared publicly in my chat with Jayne Ann Krentz last month because I've been waiting for the official final confirmation with dates attached, but we're close enough to that point now that I'm going to share anyway.

2025 is going to be VERY different for me because...

I'm moving to Okinawa, Japan!

Longtime readers know my husband is an archaeologist for the US Navy - his work has inspired several of my books, including INTO THE STORM. He has now accepted a job with the US Marine Corps in Okinawa and we are in the process of sorting all our worldly possessions to decide what we're bringing with us (not much), what we're storing (a lot) and what we're donating to charity (also a lot).

As soon as I hit send on this email, I'm going to return to cleaning closets and sorting through all the items that have accumulated over the years. It will be a slow process because there will be so many treasures to explore now that my babies are grown but we still have all their school papers and art. (And my daughter made SO MUCH art growing up - not surprising considering she's a graphic artist now.)

I've never been much for New Year's resolutions, but this year, I'm going to do something a little different -- not a resolution but a plan: this year I will finally figure out how to make Instagram Stories and wade back into TikTok -- because I want to record and share this adventure of living in Japan. I have never lived outside the US and I've never traveled west of Hawaii, so I'm VERY excited for this next adventure.

I love writing foreign settings and am frequently inspired by my husband's work, and I can't wait to see what this will mean for my writing!

For the moment, writing is on hold as we prepare for the move, so I can't begin to estimate when Evidence: Under Fire 4 will release, but I have a new release just out if you haven't read it yet!

Between my upcoming move and life events for my narrators, it wasn't possible to do a simultaneous release for the audiobook. Look for FALSE EVIDENCE to release in audiobook sometime in the spring.

Join me next Monday as I chat with two of my favorite authors: Jayne Ann Krentz and Manda Collins

Watch live or the recording on Jayne's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/JayneAnnKrentz

And now, the moment I know many of you have been waiting for - detailed photos of this year's gingerbread masterpiece. Enjoy!

Usually after New Year's Day, we eat a few of our favorite pieces of candy and then my husband takes it to work and shares it with young marines, who decimate it, eating everything but the lights and foil (although one of their NCOs once said to my husband, "Sir, they're Marines. They can eat the foil.")

I hope 2025 finds you well! In the coming months, will be sharing more of my adventures here and on social media as I make this momentous move. You can find all of my links with the click of a button.

All best and Happy New Year!

On March 23, 2025 my husband and I boarded a flight with the eventual destination of Okinawa, Japan. We arrived in Naha late on the 24th, and didn't make it to our hotel until after midnight on the 25th. (This is memorable because our hotel was on a military base and they didn't want let me on base because even though my name was on my husband's travel orders, I didn't have a DoD ID at the time and no one is permitted on base after midnight without having a pass already or DoD ID.) We did...

Did you have a chance to see the Blood Moon total lunar eclipse on March 3rd? We had a great view of it from our rooftop in Okinawa. Unfortunately it clouded over before we got the tripod dialed in, but we were able to take this photo at the maximum total eclipse. I've been back in Okinawa for a few weeks and in addition to returning in time to see the eclipse, we also had family visit from the US and Taiwan. We had a great visit and I so enjoyed taking care of my 15-month-old grand-nephew. 😍...

I'm back in the US for a few weeks--I flew home at then end of January for a writing retreat in Southern California, which was glorious and sunny, but now I'm back in the Pacific Northwest and it's chilly here! This is, of course, to be expected, but most of my winter clothes are in long-term storage. Oops. Good thing I'm heading back to Okinawa soon! My writing retreat was fabulous--I had a great time talking business and craft with author friends who I've missed dearly this last year, and I...
